چکیده

In this letter, we introduce a design consideration for super-Nyquist FMCW radar systems relating to transmitter to receiver noise leakage. Phase noise curves comparing the fundamental DDS frequency and its 2nd super-Nyquist image show a significant increase in relative noise level at all offsets from the carrier. This results in a reduced transmitter signal-to-noise ratio. It is shown with a simple example that this can lead to a significant degradation in receiver sensitivity if not managed properly. We provide a design rule-of-thumb that can be used by radar designers to avoid, or mitigate, this problem.

Focusing Bistatic FMCW SAR Signal by Range Migration Algorithm Based on Fresnel Approximation

Frequency modulated continuous wave (FMCW) technique has recently been employed by synthetic aperture radar (SAR) to decrease the radar cost and volume. However, the operation range is limited by the direct energy leakage from the transmitting channel to receiving channel due to the operation principle of FMCW technique. Bistatic configuration is an efficient way to increase the isolation betwe...

A Unique Approach to Freqeucny-modulated Continuous-wave Radar Design

Frequency-Modulated Continuous-Wave (FMCW) Radar has traditionally been used in short range applications. Conventional FMCW radar requires the use of expensive microwave mixers and low noise amplifiers. A uniquely inexpensive solution was created, using inexpensive Gunn oscillator based microwave transceiver modules that consist of 3 diodes inside of a resonant cavity. However these transceiver...
